Module 1 - Yoga As Dynamic Movement

Our first training module will look at yoga asana through the lens of a modern movement modality. This non-dogmatic, interdisciplinary approach prioritizes skill acquisition and injury mitigation. We'll learn how to best prepare our students for success using modern pedagogical methods, offering clear, concise, and empowering instruction tailored to individual needs and diverse abilities and experiences.

Thinking critically about asana, we'll learn ways to introduce variability and functionality into our classes. We’ll break down postures into their component parts and gain techniques to help keep our students safe and injury averse. We’ll also learn how to recognize and work with common imbalances and/or limitations that show up in our students and how to use movement exercises to help improve muscle balance and joint function. We'll highlight the importance of stability and strength to balance extreme ranges of motion, and we’ll tie it all together with an anatomy informed approach to sequencing and transitioning. Our first module will give you the
confidence you need to teach inspired and effective classes.

Course Objectives:

  1. Design and Teach Safe, Effective Classes: Students will be able to design and teach postural yoga classes that are skills-based, inclusive, and adaptable, using modern pedagogical techniques to meet the unique needs of diverse practitioners.
  2. Apply Movement Science to Yoga Asana: Students will be able to incorporate principles of neuroscience, biomechanics, and kinesiology to refine their understanding and practice of yoga asana, fostering intelligent and informed movement on and off the mat.
  3. Mitigate and Navigate Injuries in Yoga Settings: Students will learn to identify potential injury risks, implement strategies to prevent them, and navigate injuries with confidence and care, both in personal practice and when guiding others.

Yoga As a Healing Modality
Module 2: July 2025 - October 2025

  • restorative yoga and the physiology of stress
  • yoga therapeutics: working with chronic pain, anxiety, stress or injury
  • a trauma sensitive and informed approach to yoga
  • somatic movement and the role of interoception in regaining trust in the body

Module 2 - Yoga as a Healing Modality

Our second module looks at the role yoga can play in restoring the mind, body and spirit to wholeness. We’ll explore the physiology of stress and the impact our modern, 21st century lives have on our health and well-being. We'll learn specific restorative tools and techniques designed to help bring us back to our natural state of equilibrium and balance. We'll look closely at our complex relationship with pain and uncover what neuroscience has to offer us in terms of research. We’ll take a trauma sensitive approach to our teaching and discover ways we can help our students cope with grief or pain and create the sacred space necessary for transformation and healing.

Course Objectives:

  1. Understand the Physiology of Stress and Its Impact on Well-Being: Students will gain a deeper understanding of the physiological effects of stress on the body and mind, and learn how to apply specific techniques to foster resilience and emotional well-being.
  2. Apply Pain Science to Yoga Asana: Students will be able to confidently address concerns around pain in relation to asana using the bio/psycho/social framework allowing for the necessary nuance and complexity that each individual circumstance requires.
  3. Incorporate Trauma-Sensitive Yoga Techniques: Students will develop the skills to integrate restorative practices and trauma-informed approaches into their teaching, fostering a supportive environment for healing and transformation.

Module 3 - Yoga as a Journey into the Self

In this module, we delve into the profound intersection of self-discovery, critical thinking, and the evolving landscape of yoga in the modern world. Students will explore the importance of cultivating a personal sadhana (spiritual practice) as the foundation for authentic teaching, while honing their ability to think critically and discern effectively in an era shaped by confirmation bias and an overload of information.

We’ll address the transformative challenges and opportunities of post-pandemic yoga, including navigating the dynamics of online teaching and adapting to shifting student needs. The module also provides a comprehensive look at the business of yoga, equipping students with practical tools for success in sales, marketing, and brand development. Whether focusing on private sessions, group classes, or carving out a niche in a competitive industry, students will learn to find their unique voice and confidently share their offerings with the world.
